Jeffries said he last spoke with McCarthy on Saturday afternoon. White House and GOP negotiators announced the deal Saturday night.
“What I have consistently stated, however, privately and publicly, is that MAGA’s extreme Republican negotiating stance and that extreme bill they passed on April 26, the Default on America Act, contained nothing that was coherent with democratic values or American values,” Jeffries added.
The compromise reached yesterday evening « will not be a definitive agreement, » Jeffries said, until Congress has been able to review the legislation, the text of which should be released Sunday afternoon.
