Sen. Roger Marshall It is threatening to suspend the vote on the annual defense policy bill unless its amendment related to credit card swipe fees is included, according to four sources familiar with the situation.
Marshall declined to confirm it on Thursday, telling reporters « that people in the retail industry have been working on this issue so hard here that we have enough signs that we’re going to push it through the floor if you get one vote. »
Kansas Republican legislation reintroduced with sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) last month to force major payment networks to compete on swipe fees that merchants pay in exchange for accepting credit cards.
