Alex said she was expanding on her father’s « liberal goals » and embracing several causes including voting and abortion rights, as well as gender equality. He said he intends to continue using the family’s wealth to support left-wing US politicians.

Alex told The Wall Street Journal that he recently met with Biden administration officials, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and heads of state, including Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, to solicit matters relating to the foundation of the family.

In December, the board of Open Society Foundations, known as OSF, elected Alex as its president, succeeding his father. The paper also reported that Alex now leads political activity as chairman of Soros’ super PAC.

The Wall Street Journal reported that the younger Soros is the only family member on the investment committee that oversees Soros Fund Management, which manages money for the foundation and family.

During the interview with the newspaper, Alex expressed concern that former President Donald Trump could return to the White House and hinted that Soros’ organization will play a key financial role in the 2024 presidential race.

« As much as I’d like to get money out of politics, as long as the other side does, we’ll have to do it too, » he said in an interview that took place at the fund manager’s New York offices.

Alex is the eldest of two children from George Soros’ marriage to his second wife, Susan Weber, according to the Wall Street Journal.

The appointment passes to George Soros’ eldest son, Jonathan Soros, 52, a lawyer with experience in finance. He was believed to be the clear successor until « one falling out and second thoughts, » according to the paper.
