The Kansas Education Enrichment Program (KEEP) is nearing its capacity. Applications are processed in the order of submission until funds are exhausted. Once allocated, the program will not accept further applications, though claims can be submitted for a year post-award. What documents are required to apply for KEEP?

Documents required: Please keep these documents handy as per the case while applying for KEEP.

  1. All parents should provide one of the following documents to prove Kansas Residency
    • Current Kansas Driver’s License or ID renewal postcard
    • Current Kansas vehicle registration
    • Utility bill or equivalent no more than two months old
    • Financial institution documents such as a bank statement, deed, or mortgage with a current Kansas address
    • Rent or lease agreement dated within the last 12 months
    • Kansas Voter Registration Card 
  2. For parents of children who are over 18 and still enrolled in a K-12 program in Kansas:
    • Documents to prove school enrollment for the child
  3. Parents/Guardians who do not have a student in foster care or are enrolled in SNAP benefits, must have their income checked to determine eligibility. Acceptable documents include:
    • Copies of the first two pages of your IRS Form 1040 (to check income eligibility). 
  4. Parents/Guardians who have a student(s) in foster care, must provide:
    • A copy of the Placement Agreement document
  5. Parents/Guardians who are actively receiving SNAP benefits:
    • Parents/Guardians must provide their SNAP award letter.
    • They also need to provide proof of their relationship to the student with one of the following documents:
      • The first two pages of their 2021 or 2022 Form 1040 (most recent). If they have more than 4 dependents, then they must include the statement or attachment of dependents.
      • An adoption decree
      • A custody decree
      • An affidavit of guardianship

Step 1.a: Creating an account

  • Click here to access the KEEP Application.
  • If you are completing an application for the first time, click “Register for an Account”
  • On the next page, enter your name, email address, phone number and select a password to create an account. Click Register.

  • Once you click Register, a pop-up window will appear requesting that you enter address information. You should list your home address in this section and click Save.

  • Once you click save, you will be directed to the beginning of the application.

Step 1.b: Login into existing account

  • If you have already created an account, you can click on Log in to Existing Account.

  • Enter your email address and password that you used to create an account and click “Log In”

  • If you cannot remember your password, please click “Forgot Password?” and a temporary password will be sent to your email to allow you to log in and create a new password.

Once Logged in, you can either start a new application or view any students you have started applications for or view any students that you have completed applications for.

Step 2: Student Form – After creating an account and clicking “Save”, you will be taken to the first section of the application to enter student information. After completing this section, you will have the option to complete this section again if you would like to apply for additional students. You will be asked to enter the following information for each student:

  1. Student First Name
  2. Student Last Name
  3. Birthdate
  4. The last 4 digits of the student’s social security number
  5. Student’s Primary Address
  6. Is the student 18 years of age or younger as of 5/31/23?
    • If you answer “No” to this question, you will be required to upload evidence of the student’s enrollment in a public or private educational institution. This document must be on the institution’s letterhead and include the name of the student, the institution name, address, and contact info.
  7. Is this child a foster child?
    • If you answer yes, you will be required to upload one of the following documents: 
      • A copy of the Placement Agreement from the foster agency verifying the name of the student and date of the placement. 
      • Custody paperwork signed by a government or court official
  8. What grade is this student in for the 2022-23 school year?
  9. Is this student enrolled in grades K-12 in a Kansas school? (Private/Public)
  10. Type of school or institution the student is enrolled in for the 2022-23 school year.
    • If you answer “Traditional Private or Public K12, Charter or Virtual School”, you must select a school the student is attending for the chosen school year
      • To select a school, please begin typing to search for the school name. If the school is not listed, please select “Other/School Not Listed” and enter the required fields.
    • If you answer “Home School”, you must upload a copy of the Non-Accredited Private School Registration form submitted to the Kansas State Board of Education. 
  11. Is this student of Hispanic, Latino or Spanish Origin? 
  12. What is this student’s race? You can select from a list of options or select I Choose Not to Answer

Once you complete the student information, click Register. Once you click Register, you will see a pop up asking if you want to Register Another Student or Continue. To apply for additional student(s), please click register another student and complete the student specific information again. If you are only applying for one student, please click Continue.

If you click Register another student, you will be directed to the student information page again to register another student. Else, if you click continue, you will be directed to household questions.

Step 3: Household forms – After completing the student information for each student applying for the KEEP Program, you will be directed to complete household questions. The following questions are asked in this section:

  1. What is your household size? You should include all adults and children living in your home more than 50% of the time in the total household size.
  2. Please enter your adjusted gross income (AGI) as shown on line 11 of your 2021 or 2022 1040 tax return.
    • If you filed “Married, Filing Separately”, please combine the values listed on line 11 of each tax return for each parent/guardian.

  1. We require a copy of your 2021 or 2022 1040 Tax Return. Please select the file type you will be uploading below. i. Photo or Screenshot ii. PDF

    • Please click “Click or drop a file here to upload” to upload a copy of your 2021 or 2022 1040 tax return. You must include pages 1 and 2 of your 2021 or 2022 1040 tax return.

  • If you file Married, Filing Separately, you will have two separate upload boxes available to upload each tax return.

  2. Does the applicant, as the Parent/Legal Guardian/Foster Parent, own a business that serves students in Kansas? a. This is a yes or no question. b. If you answer “Yes”, you will be required to list the name of the business. 
  3. Please select one of the below documents to show as proof of residency.
    • Current Kansas Driver’s License or ID renewal postcard
    • Current Kansas vehicle registration

Step 4: A disclaimer form: 

  1. On the last section of the application, you will be given a series of statements to read and approve. Please read through all bulleted items.
  2. Once you read through the bulleted items, please check the box to agree to the above statements and provide a written (digital) signature.

  2. On the next page, you will receive a confirmation message. This message confirms that your application has been received. You will also receive a confirmation message via email.
