At least nine people were shot, one fatally, in a shooting just after midnight Sunday in Willowbrook, Illinois, southwest of Chicago, fire officials said.
At around 12:30, shots were fired during « some kind of celebration » with hundreds of people in the parking lot of a strip mall on Route 83 near Honeysuckle Rose Lane in DuPage County, said Joe Ostrander, a senior battalion with the Tri-State Fire District.
Firefighters who were called to the scene took 10 people to a hospital, nine who were shot and one who had a medical emergency, Chief Ostrander said. He added that he had heard from police that many more people had been rushed to hospitals in the area and that the number of victims was set to rise. The DuPage County Sheriff’s Office was not immediately available for comment.
